In celebration of the 2026 National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) Conference, Detroit’s historic Scarab Club will present STEMS & VESSELS, a collaborative teaching exhibition exploring the intersection of ceramic art and the Japanese art of Ikebana. March 25 - Saturday, March 28 - Artists Lounge, Scarab Club’s Upper Level.

Curated by Terri Marra (ARTSearch) in collaboration with Ikebana Sensei Liz Larwa and Leslie Rosinski, this special exhibition will ceramic vessels from Kate Tremel, Tom Phardel, Ryan Forrey, Monica Wilson, Abigail Murray, Francesc Burgos, Elizabeth Youngblood, Darcy Bowden, Margeaux Claude, Deborah Wood Each vessel will be paired with a contemporary freestyle Ikebana arrangement, highlighting the aesthetic dialogue between form, space, balance, and natural materials.

Special Ikebana Demonstration: Wednesday, March 25, 2026, • Workshop admission $20,available in advance through scarabclub.org

This live Ikebana demonstration will precede the main conference events. Six pre-selected Ikebana artists will each select two or more ceramic vessels to create original freestyle arrangements, demonstrating their artistic expertise and interpretive approach.

This educational event offers the public a rare opportunity to learn about the principles of Ikebana, its artistic philosophy, and the presence of its associations in Ann Arbor and Detroit.
